Make Your Beauty Results Last: Prep & Aftercare Tips
At Motherpluckers, we’re all about enhancing your natural beauty in ways that are low-maintenance, high-impact, and long-lasting. But here’s the truth: no matter how flawless your brow lamination or lash lift looks when you walk out of our studio, the longevity of your results comes down to one thing— how well you prep and care for them.
Whether you’re a seasoned brow babe or getting your lashes lifted for the first time, this guide breaks down exactly how to prep and care for your services to get the most out of every visit. Trust us, these tips actually work—and your future self (and selfies) will thank you.
Why Aftercare Matters (Yes, Even for “Low Maintenance” Services)
It’s easy to think that once your brows are laminated or your lashes are lifted, the hard part is done. But great results don’t stop at the studio door. Just like your skincare routine, aftercare plays a major role in how long your results last and how good they look over time.
Neglecting aftercare can lead to fading, frizzing, or even irritation. But when you follow the right prep and post-care tips, you’ll:
- Extend the life of your service
- Protect the integrity of your skin and hair
- Save time and money in the long run
Now let’s break it down by service.
1. Brow Lamination
Before your appointment:
- Avoid using retinols or exfoliants around the brow area for at least 2 weeks prior.
- Don’t trim your brows beforehand—let your artist work with the full length.
- Come with clean, makeup free brows (we can always remove any makeup if this part doesn't work in your schedule!) .
Aftercare tips:
- No steam, streams, makeup or sweat for 24 hours.
- Avoid touching or brushing them. The lamination process sets your hairs into place, so let them settle.
-Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 24hrs.Your brows are still in a malleable state. Sleep on a satin pillowcase to reduce friction and keep your brows from getting squished or bent overnight.

2. Lash Lifting
Before your appointment:
- Arrive with clean lashes—no mascara, oils, or residue.
- Pro Tip: Avoid caffeine right before your appointment to minimize twitching or blinking.
Aftercare tips:
- No water, steam, or mascara for 24–48 hours. Your lashes need time to “set” in their new shape.
- Avoid oil-based products. They can break down the lift solution.
- Hold off on your lash serums for 2-3 weeks after your lash lift as this will contribute to growing out your lash lift
- Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 24hrs. Your lashes are still in a malleable state. Sleep on a satin pillowcase to reduce friction and keep your lashes from getting squished or bent overnight.
- Book your lifts every 6–8 weeks to maintain results without overprocessing.

3. Brow Tinting
Before your appointment:
- If you have never died your hair to your roots before you are required to get a patch test at least 24hrs before. Patch tests are free, do not require an appointment and will be applied to the back of your ear.
Aftercare tips:
- Don’t exfoliate the brow area or use active ingredients like AHAs, BHAs, or retinol to promote longevity of your brow tint.
Keep in mind: Tinting typically lasts up to 2 weeks. Results can vary depending on your skin type, skincare routine, and sun exposure.

4. Brow Staining
Think of brow staining as the longer-lasting, more pigmented cousin of tinting. It stains both the hair and the skin for a bolder look.
Before your appointment:
- If you have never died your hair to your roots before you are required to get a patch test at least 24hrs before. Patch tests are free, do not require an appointment and will be applied to the back of your ear.
Aftercare tips:
- Be gentle when cleansing your face—pat dry and avoid scrubbing the brow area.
- Don’t exfoliate the brow area or use active ingredients like AHAs, BHAs, or retinol to promote longevity of your brow stain.
- The stain on your skin typically lasts up to 10 days, while the stain on the brow hairs can last up to 7 weeks.

5. Brow Waxing
Before your appointment:
- Let your brows grow out for at least 3-6 weeks before waxing for the best shape (depending on your hair growth)
- Skip active skincare ingredients 2 weeks prior to avoid irritation.
- Avoid sun exposure or tanning beds for 24–48 hours beforehand.
Aftercare tips:.
- Skip makeup in the area for a full day (if possible).
- Apply a soothing gel or serum (like aloe vera or witch hazel) to reduce redness and inflammation. (we always offer to apply aloe vera after each brow waxing appointment ;)
- Exfoliate gently 2–3 days post-waxing to prevent ingrown hairs.
Important: If you’re planning a trip or special event, book your wax at least 2–3 days beforehand to allow any redness or irritation to subside.

6. Facial Waxing
Before your appointment:
- Avoid retinoids and acids for at least 2 weeks.
- Come with clean skin, no makeup, SPF, or oils (we can always cleanse your skin here if you do happen to come in with makeup!)
Aftercare tips:
- No makeup, SPF, or active skincare for 24 hours. Let the skin breathe and recover.
- Try to avoid hot showers, steam rooms, or workouts right after your service.
- Exfoliate gently 2–3 days after waxing to keep skin smooth and prevent ingrown.
Sensitive skin? Let your artist know ahead of time so they can find an alternative hair removal option for you.
