Spring Cleaning Guide: Refresh Your Space, Mind & Beauty Routine

"Spring adds new life and new beauty to all that is."

Jessica Harrelson

Every year, something amazing happens. It starts with leaving work at 5pm and realizing the sun is still visible. Then you notice the sound of melting snow dripping in the eaves trough of every house on your block. And then the temperature breaks 0 degrees celsius and you realize you’ve made it through the winter - Spring is here.

It’s a time for celebration, but you’ve got work to do. In nature, growth and rebirth is made possible because winter took care of getting rid of the old to make room for the new. The same applies to us, except we have to do this manually. Hence spring cleaning.

But we’re still technically animals, just monkeys with a plan. So we have the spring itch for change and renewal. And it doesn’t need to be that difficult or drastic; here are five simple ways to start your spring cleaning.

  1. We’ll start you off easy so you don’t get overwhelmed. The first thing you’re going to do is clean out your phone. You’re going to go through all your apps, Notes, files, and photos. It’s time to delete your grocery lists from 4 months ago and screenshots of funny instagram posts. Free up space in your phone to make room for new lists and memories. Plus, this one is making good use of your screen time.
  2. Next, it’s time to book all your beauty treatments—think of it as shedding your winter coat and stepping into spring feeling refreshed. Get that haircut, maybe a pedicure, and of course, your brows done 😉. But why stop there? Help out Future You by booking your appointments in advance. If you know you get your brows done every four weeks, lock in those dates now. That way, your brows stay on point, and all you have to do is show up!
  3. The next step in your spring cleaning process is going to be replacing all your old crusty makeup that’s either past its expiration date or that you’ve had for more than six months. Getting rid of old makeup is important because past a certain point, the composition of the makeup’s ingredients can change, which in turn can change how your body/skin/etc reacts to them. Keeping makeup for too long also increases the chances of bacteria accumulating or mold forming in your products. And these are definitely things we want to keep away from your skin. Plus this gives you the opportunity to go on a little shopping spree to replace what needs to be thrown out.
  4. And finally, you’re going to do a wardrobe overhaul. Sort through your closet; anything that you haven’t worn in over a year is getting evicted. You can either resell it or donate it to charity. No one has infinite closet space, and things that no longer bring you joy or that aren’t getting regular use should be removed to make way for pieces that you love. That dress you’ve been saving for a special occasion but hasn’t been worn since you bought it should go to a loving home. And then if necessary, you can buy one that you’ll reach for all the time ;)

Spring cleaning isn’t just about tidying up. It’s about making space for the life you actually want to live. By clearing out the clutter, refreshing your routine and setting yourself up for success, you’re not just accepting a new season; you’re stepping into it with intention. You’re also setting yourself up to grow and blossom. Shed the old, welcome the new, and make this spring a fabulous fresh start.
